I started out the year with the following reading challenge: Each month, I will read one novel over 500 pages, one academic book from outside my field, and one methodological book. I got a little behind with the whole job market thing, so I’m trying instead for a total of twelve each so the average is still one per month.
Novels over 500 Pages
A Naked Singularity by Sergio de la Pava (678 pages, finished)
Reamde by Neal Stephenson (1044 pages, in progress)
Academic Books Outside My Field
Her Neighbor’s Wife by Laura Jae Gutterman (LGBT History, finished)
Critical Approaches to Welcome to Night Vale edited by Jeffrey Andrew Weinstock (multi-disciplinary, finished)
Weak Nationalism by Douglas Dowland (Literature, in progress)
Methodological Books
The Discovery of Grounded Theory by Glaser and Strauss (Finished)
Constructing Grounded Theory by Kathy Charmaz (In progress)
I hope to start posting reviews, but this is where I am at with everything currently. Why yes, I made this list largely because writer’s block is terrible.
